I was recently shortlisted for a We Are The City Rising Star award in the PR, Marketing and Communications category. Yaay me! As part of being shortlisted I had to have a profile put up on their website. You can read it here and it gives the world a little insight into my world. It shares part of my story and my journey to getting to where I am now.
The reason this is important? Without sharing my story no one would ever have known why I do what I do. Why I love what I do. And why I think it’s important to continue doing what I do. My story gave anyone that read it an insight into me. So whether you are an individual looking to improve your personal brand or a business thinking about your marketing your story matters. Over the last month I’ve seen the following impacts from sharing my story:
I’ve had a number of people reach out to me to say that they loved reading my story. Either because they are doing similar things or wanted to be doing similar things. When they read my story they felt like they ‘got’ me even more. They same can be said of sharing the story of your business, some people will resonate and therefore feel more inclined to want to learn more.
People felt inspired
People only really know what you tell them. So when you share your story and provided them with new insights it can sometimes be inspirational. I don’t do all the various things I do because I want to be an inspiration. But I have recently been told a number of times what an inspiration I am to others. If I’m honest I didn’t really know that sharing my story would have that impact. But it has and I want to continue inspiring others. You never know who needs to hear your story to inspire them to do something or be something more.
I realised just how far I’ve come
No one else was there walking in your shoes when you started the journey of building your business. When you share your story, you are forced to reflect on the highs and also the lows of your journey. This can be great for putting things into perspective, something we often forget to do. It also helps others to realise the work you’ve put in behind the scenes to get to where they see you. There are lessons there that others can learn from. People often appreciate knowing some of the background of the businesses they buy from.
I work with individuals and businesses to tell their stories more effectively. If you’d like to find out more click here or sign up here to get tips and tricks for better storytelling straight to your inbox!
